"She hasn't done anything but walk around town and waste her time in a park for the past couple of days." I reported to Holmes early in the morning.

"That won't lead us anywhere.... I think it would be high time you went and talked to her." he replied after a few moments of serious thinking.

"Must I point out it would be easier if you talked to her? You would get the answers you want." I replied in turn.

"That would be most illogic, Kirkland" he bluntly replied.

"And why is that?"

"........" No answer. It didn't matter, I knew.

You can't just ask an emotionally unstable person questions about their personal life, especially if you're a stranger. It would be best if someone around her age, like me, talks to her and gains her trust than an older man who has issues, not that he'll ever admit it. I looked down in defeat and started heading outside.

"Kirkland!" I head from behind me; it was Holmes.

"Don't slip this up, this is important." he sternly said, his hand on my shoulder and his gaze staring trough my soul.

Well, so much for a pep talk...

Nonetheless, I nodded and I took my leave as I unhooked my coat. It was supposed to get chilly today, and that might be the best excuse for me to talk to her. I would have never guessed  I would be grateful for cold weather....

I walked down the practically empty street, and finally, the sight of the park where the young lady slept came within my view. I quickened my pace so I could catch her still sleeping at the base of her tree. When the old tree finally came to view in turn, she wasn't there.

"Maybe she's on the other side....." I thought.

I proceeded with softly walking around the tree, not wanting to wake her up.......

-----Your POV-----

When you eventually woke up, you didn't open your eyes at first. You were confused as to why you felt warmer than the day before, and so you risked one eye open, and what you saw surprised you. There was a young man, about your age, that was sitting next to you, his eyes closed. You opened yours completely and looked at your clothes. You noticed a coat, probably his, was put on you.

"So that's why I'm not chilly..." you thought.

You looked back at the man. He had messy blonde hair, which practically hid his huge eyebrows. He was dressed in brand new middle upper-class clothing, which obviously meant he wasn't in the same state than you. You noticed he didn't really seem to be sleeping, just to be thinking. You started trembling because the thought of him being one of your uncle's spies crossed your mind, which made him open his emerald green eyes.

He turned his head towards you, and you knew that he could see fear in your eyes. That scared you even more....

"Are you alright, miss....?" he asked you.

"Hum, yeah....." you answered. Maybe he didn't know who you were..... Maybe, just maybe, he lately ran away as well.

The both of you were sitting in a very uncomfortable silence. You stared back at his coat on your shoulders, scared that he might take you back to your loathed home. He just looked at the sky, a smile on his face. You did the same but your eyes were slightly narrowed.

"That's a pretty sky" he softly said.

You glanced at him. He didn't kno--? You smiled.

"It is...." you softly replied, your gaze trailing down at the slightly damaged hem of your [Colour of Choice] dress. No, he does. If he didn't know you, he wouldn't have come to you. Nobody just sits and talks with a homeless girl. Nobody.

Suddenly, a wave of panic overcame you, and you stood up. You found it stupid, but you were up, might as well make it as an excuse to leave this guy here. If he follows you, he's a spy. If he doesn't, he's a nice guy.

"I really must go; I happen to have errands to run before noon" you lied, turning to look at the young man.

"Oh, okay.... Will I ever see you again?" he asked, even if he already knew the right answer.

"Maybe, maybe not, who knows." you politely replied, slipping off the checkered coat and handing it to him.

You turned around, heading nowhere in particular. You ended up walking around aimlessly in that same park. You stopped and looked at the scenery around you, and you felt like sitting on a park bench. About ten minutes afterwards, an old man sat on the same bench, a few inches away from you. After about half an hour, you gave him a quick glance and wished him a nice day as you stood back up and headed back to your tree, hoping that the young man would have left. He had.

You sat back at its base, as you did a few hours ago, and simply stared at the sky. You looked at the clouds, watching the smallest of them slowly disappear from the blue of the sky and the bigger ones morph into different shapes. You loved staring at the sky; it made you forget your troubles for a slight amount of time. That also made you think of the young man earlier. He had the most gorgeous green eyes you had ever seen, and he had been very polite with you.

"No, he's a spy... It's his job." you thought.

You sighed as you stood back up and headed towards the market place, just so you could feel like you had somewhere to go, even though you didn't. Then, a ball rolled down to your feet, and you picked it up, only to find its owner running towards you so he could retrieve it. You walked closer in turn, and handed him the ball, smiling. The blonde middle-aged man, thanked you and ran back to where he came from.

You headed towards the busy market streets, hoping to waste some more time and maybe find a job, even if it would just be part-time. Once you arrived there, you looked around you, feigning shopping when in actuality you were searching for a job. You walked through the whole street, but no such luck. Not even the nearby cafés or tea shop had any employment signs.  You looked as the sky slowly turned into shades of purple and indigo. Yet another unfruitful day went by, not that you expected it to be different.

Then, the sound of a horse-drawn carriage echoed from the street behind you. You looked in that direction, and you froze; it was your uncle's. He was in it too, with a fake worried expression on his face that only you could see through. You started mentally panicking: what if he finds you --no, worse, what if someone recognizes you and tells him where you had been "living" for a while? You turned around, hoping to get the farthest away you could without attracting any attention. You gave a quick glance behind you, and he was talking to the baker who was helping you. He was talking to him about you; that he saw you, since you could see the "relieved" look on your uncle's face. You were screwed now.

You looked at your right, and you saw an alley. Not the best of ideas, but at least it'll keep you hidden from Francis's field of vision while you try and find a way out of this new mess. You bifurcated there, and you released your breath only when you were out of sight. You closed your eyes shut, as you were backed up against the wall, listening to the horse's steps as the carriage's chauffeur continued out on the street. Then, you didn't hear anything anymore. You were about to poke your head out, but then a hand was put on your mouth, while another was gripping your arm tightly.

"Not a good idea, trust me" you heard from an unknown masculine voice.

You froze, fear making you obey. You stayed like this, and then, you heard the sounds of the carriage resume; it simply paused. Did that man actually help you? You tried to look at him, but he was out of our field of vision. He only let you go when the sound faded away, and then you could finally see him. Was that the man to whom you gave the runaway ball earlier?

He took his blonde wig off, which hid his curly dark brown hair, and ripped his blonde moustache off too. His eyes were a shifting shade of brown. You tilted your head in curiosity for that disguise, but the fear that was still lingering in the pit of your stomach prevented you to utter a single sound. What if he's a bad guy?

"I do apologize for this blunt gesture, miss. My name is Sherlock Holmes, may I ask yours?"

You were surprised by his apology, but that's all it took for your own will to suddenly come back.

"[Name] Bonnefoy...." you replied in a shaky voice.

Your uncle, Francis, changed your last name when you rightfully became his "daughter". You really wanted to take your own last name back...... If only you knew it!

"No offence intended, but you do look horrible, I dare say."

You narrowed your eyes and you crossed your arms on your chest. The offence was indeed taken. Then, the reality of all you've been through in this past month came rushing back, and you let your arms turn limp and you dropped your head, sighing: he was absolutely right.

"I have noticed you spent all your time in the park, might you have nowhere to stay? I would gladly offer you one of my unoccupied rooms."

You lifted your head so you could take a good look at him. Do you seriously look like someone who would have the money for a place to stay? He seemed to have caught on to your silent questioning.

"All expenses paid"

Your eyes widen. Was he serious? You narrowed your eyes. A nice gesture like that must hide some dark motives. Maybe he works for your uncle, and he'll turn you over without a thought. That's the only explanation.

"Must I point out that not all people are bad?" he replied, as if he could read your mind. [A.N. He can, sorta.. XD] "I would, though, ask of your maid services in exchange. You were searching for a job, am I correct? I am offering you one at the same title as a roof above your head."

That made more sense to you, but you had nowhere else to go. You were probably going to be found if you stayed in the streets any longer, and your only source of food had given you away. You were back at the start, so, even if this was just a trap, you had nothing else to lose. You had no more hope left.

You accepted.

Holmes gave you a satisfied smile, and hid his wig in the pockets of his long coat. He led you to one of the buildings in the street you just fled from, and he unlocked the door. He let you in first, holding the door for you and the comforting smell of Earl Grey tea greeted you in.

You stared in awe at the richly decorated house, though it was nothing compared to where you used to live. You were just grateful to have met this guy, because, from what you had seen so far, he was genuinely a nice fellow.

Your benefactor hung his long coat on the hook by the door, and  he gesture you to follow him. He led you upstairs, and he showed you the room where you would stay from now on. It was actually a lot better that where your uncle made you sleep, heck you even had your own bathroom now!

"Are you sure, sir, that my presence here won't disturb you?" you asked, still dazed from his offer.

"Most sure, miss, and would you please address me as Holmes? I must say that I am not a big fan of such interpellations."

"You are most kind, si-- H-Homes" you corrected yourself. "You can simply call me by my first name."

"All righty then" he said, clapping his hands together. "You may do whatever you ladies do when you bathe, and I'll wait for you downstairs. Only then shall we get into more details of your stay here."

And with that, he left you to go about your business, without forgetting to close the door behind him. What a weird guy.... You looked around the room, a real smile making its way to your lips.

You could get used to this.....
